After the birth of our daughter I plan on returning to work. I am going to have my sister-in-law take care of the baby when I am at work. I told her I want to pay her, but she wouldn't give me a "price"--just "whatever we are comfortable with". Help! I have no idea what to pay her. We cannot afford paying a professional caregiver, however, I don't want to offend her or have her think I am unappreciative.
How much do you think I should pay? Or should I figure out another way to compensate her? |

Hi, my name is Lydia. In my family, we like to compensate each other by returning the favor or doing something else nice. For, example, my father-in-law has been such a help in the past with electric work, etc., so my husband and I take him out for dinner, or get him something we know he needs, and can use. I would find another way to compensate your sister-in-law. Sometimes family may feel awkward accepting money as payment when they are helping out. Buy her some bath stuff, jewelry, or something she is really into at the time.
Hope that helps! |
